Which Volleyball Trainer Is Right for You? A Skill-by-Skill Guide

Which Volleyball Trainer Is Right for You? A Skill-by-Skill Guide

Every volleyball player has a skill they want to fix. Maybe it's shanked passes. Maybe it's sets that drift off the net, or an approach that never quite times up. The right trainer depends on that one skill, not on which product looks the most impressive.

This guide breaks it down skill by skill so you can pick the right setup the first time. If you want the short version, our Buying Guide puts every trainer side by side on one page.

Start With One Question: What Do They Want to Train?

Most players don't need everything. They need more reps on the one skill that's holding them back. Pick the skill, and the gear follows.

Passing → Volleyball Rebounder

Best first buy. If you're not sure where to start, start here.

The Volleyball Rebounder sends the ball straight back to you, so you can work on your platform without a partner. It's built for high-volume solo reps: pass, reset, pass again. It also handles setting, hitting and footwork work.

Best for: beginners, younger players, and anyone whose passing needs work.

Spiking → Volleyball Spike Trainer

Hitters need reps on arm swing and timing, and those are the hardest reps to get outside practice. In practice you might get a few dozen swings. At home you can get hundreds.

The Volleyball Spike Trainer holds the ball at contact height so you can work on your full approach, arm swing and power on every rep. It's height-adjustable, so it grows with the athlete, and it doubles as a blocking tool.

Best for: outside, opposite and middle hitters who want a stronger, more consistent swing.

Setting → Volleyball Setter Trainer

Good setting comes from clean hands and the same release every time. Repetition builds both.

The Volleyball Setter Trainer adjusts from 6 to 11 ft and returns the ball so you can set rep after rep on your own. It also covers overhead passing.

Best for: setters, and any player who wants softer hands and more accurate sets.

All-Around → Volleyball Training Station

For the committed player who wants it all in one setup. The Volleyball Training Station covers passing, setting, hitting, serving, blocking and footwork. It's adjustable and portable.

Best for: club players training year-round who want one setup for every skill.

Backyard Games → Volleyball Net

Not every rep has to be a drill. The Volleyball Net is a portable, height-adjustable net for family games and casual play, and it fits smaller yards. It's a great way to get younger players hooked on the game.

Best for: families, casual play, and players who want game-style touches at home.

Don't Forget the Ball

Every setup needs a good ball. The Apex Volleyball is an official size 5, so home reps feel like game reps.
